Fire Alarm Testing

For compliance with The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order of 2006, an alarm system must be in place in any working environment.

Typically, Electronic Sounders are installed in many offices and shops. These can be activated by the Break Glass unit and in other cases where they are linked to the detectors which will automatically set off the alarm. The alarm system should be checked for its effectiveness. It should be routinely tested weekly where a short sound test is applied for a few seconds at different call points in a rotation system. All performances should be noted in your Fire Log. It is advisable to let all occupants know that a short alarm test will be occurring, and a regular time and day will help to avoid confusion for this event.

The alarm system should also be serviced by a qualified engineer at least twice a year and certification issued to conform to legal and insurance requirements.

Your minimum requirements are that the alarm hits a minimum of 60db in all occupied areas with a recommended 65db.
